Medicine Making 2-Part Workshop Series PART TWO

Learning how to craft your own herbal medicines is an empowering tool that provides sustained wellness and autonomy.

Colleen Emery is passionate about providing access to education experiences that inspire and connect folks to the natural living world around them. In this Medicine Making two part workshop series students will learn hands on methods of turning raw herbs into storage ready medicines and creating a home apothecary ready to address many health concerns.

Covering all aspects of Medicine Making including Infusions, Decoctions, Syrups, Creams, Salves, Electuaries, Capsulation, Tablets, Bolus, Oxymels, Acetums and Tinctures, both maceration and percolation. Participants will arrive to receiving a bag full of supplies ready to create medicines and will leave with 15 herbal medicines ready for their home apothecaries.

Newly Expanded Format for 2019 – 2020
The Medicine Making Workshop is now being offer in two parts.
Both classes are 8 hours in duration with a 1 hour lunch break.
Class One of the workshop, as detailed below, covers the foundational principals of Herbal Pharmacy, aka Herbal Medicine Making. At this workshop we will prepare a variety of medicines, some that will be ready to take home at the end of class and some that will be completed during Class Two of this workshop.
Class Two of the workshop will cover more advanced principals of Herbal Pharmacy, aka Herbal Medicine Making.  At this class we will finish the medicines we started in class one plus we will start more medicines that participants will learn how to finish at home. This class will focus on the principles of scientific measurement and precise medicine making techniques.
This Intensive is reserved for the students of the Holistic Herbalism Foundations Program and will open for enrolment to the public upon availability.
CLASS ONE Saturday, November 2nd, 2019 
9 AM – 5 PM 
Location TBA (in the Winlaw, BC area) 
We cover the foundational principles of extraction in this part of the workshop.
Ever wondered why some herbs should be tinctured, some decocted or made into an infusion? Why it isn’t preferable for some herbs to be capsulated or extracted in glycerine?
Understanding a few basics principles gives participants the tools to create really effective plant medicine that honours the herb and the value it offers.
We will discover these principles by creating: 
Infusions & Decoctions
Syrups & Electuaries
Capsules & Tablets
Oil Infusions
Acetums & Oxymels
The basics of Tincture extraction
CLASS TWO Saturday, January 18th, 2020 
9 AM – 5 PM 
Location TBA (in the Winlaw, BC area) 
We meet again and take our foundational concepts further by creating more medicinal extractions, completing the medicines we started in Class One and creating more medicines from these foundational plant extracts.
Curious about how to create fresh plant extractions and get the alcohol to water ratio correct? Wondering about dual extraction techniques and when this should be applied? Ever heard of double extraction herbal oil infusions or three fold tincture extracts? Wondering about the elusive percolation technique and how this plant extract is completed?
We will explore all these techniques and more by creating: 
Salves & Creams
Bolus & Suppository
Fresh & Dried Herb Scientific Measurement Maceration Tincture Method
Dual Extraction Tincture Method
Percolation Tincture Method
At the end of the Second Class Students will have created over 15 herbal medicines ready to stock their home apothecary plus have gained the knowledge and tools necessary to create really effective plant medicines on their own.
All supplies and a comprehensive manual are included in the cost of the program. Students will receive of certificate of participation for their learning portfolios.
