This year's Jack-o-Lantern carved by Husband.

Its been a wonderfully busy week here, celebrating and marking the time of the descent into darkness. On Halloween night we celebrated with good friends and took the kids out for a healthy round of trick or treating. The Pickle loves to trick or treat, not so much for the candy, but to explore the neighborhood to check out all the groovy/scary decorations and to connect with all our wonderful neighbors.

When we arrived back with literally pounds of candy, she proceeded to sort and look at the loot, then she dumped it all into a bowl and set it on the step with a sign that read “Help yourself, take two”. Although I should be surprised I wasn’t as we have been talking about the reality of this food with her for as long as I can remember. Now I know that its really becoming her reality and a truth to her. Sniff sniff, my baby is growing up!

The other thing we love to do to celebrate Samhain is to set up our Ancestor Altar. As this is a time of the year when the veil between the living and the dead is the thinnest, we call in all our ancestors, pay tribute to them and teach about them. Its a wonderful way to stay connected to our heritage. Here is our Altar this year…

I hope that you all are staying well and enjoying the seasonal fall temperatures!! Time to turn that Jack-o-Lantern into some spicy pumpkin curry!!!
