According to the American Cancer Society, a little over 1.9 million new cancer cases were expected to be diagnosed in the US in 2023 with an estimated 609,820 cases resulting in death in the US in 2023. Cancer is expected to surpass cardiovascular disease as the leading cause of death worldwide in the coming years.
The statistical likelihood of developing cancer is stated to 39% meaning the likelihood of seeing and supporting clients in practice working with cancer conditions runs probable.

A holistic approach in clinic considers all health, social, and interpersonal influences that have a bearing on outcomes, with high regard for the wishes of the individual. Learning how to collaborate with your client’s health care providers yields best results for the client.

CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
Learning objectives
By completion of this 6 part program the student will be able to:
- Recognize and mitigate exogenous risk factors for cancer – diet, environment, stress
- Assess for and clinically control for endogenous risk factors for cancer – glycation, oxidative stress load, detoxification pathways, coagulopathies, hormonal drivers
- Assess for and clinically control co-morbidities and symptoms of cancer
- Create a comprehensive foundation treatment plan for a cancer patient, taking into account their unique oncologic typology
Who is this course for?
This is an intermediate – advanced course, intended for senior students, newly qualified practitioners looking for practical guidance in cancer care, and for experienced practitioners looking to refresh their clinical practices with a deeper understanding and more confidence and competence in supporting people with cancer.
Total Instruction Hours for the program equals over 50 Hours of Learning Content including:
- 6 recorded classes of 7 + hours per class.
- 3 x 90 minute recorded mentorship sessions with Chanchal and the original cohort of the program.
- PLUS a bonus 6 hour recorded lecture on surgery care.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Chanchal Cabrera
MSc, FNIMH, RHT, RH (AHG)
Chanchal is a medical herbalist and has been in clinical practice for 35 years with a specialty in holistic oncology. She is the author of Fibromyalgia: A Journey towards Healing and her new book Holistic Cancer Care: An Herbal Approach to Preventing Cancer, Helping Patients Thrive during Treatment, and Minimizing the Risk of Recurrence. She held the faculty chair in Botanical Medicine at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine in New Westminster from 2004 to 2016, and she publishes widely in professional journals and lectures internationally on medical herbalism, nutrition, and health.
Chanchal is also a certified Shinrin Yoku (forest bathing) practitioner, a certified Master Gardener, and a certified Horticulture Therapist. Chanchal lives on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, where she and her husband manage Innisfree Farm & Botanic Garden, a 7-acre internationally registered botanic garden specializing in food and medicine plants, and where they host apprenticeships in sustainable food production and herbal medicine. The farm also hosts Gardens without Borders, a federally registered not-for-profit society established to run the botanic garden and provide horticulture therapy.
